Treading down the memory lane, Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal Medical Educational and Charitable Trust was started by Founder Chancellor Dr A. Shanmugasundaram in 1981 to serve the needy in the society.

The work began and it took not long to get over. The trust established its first medical college in Pondicherry (now Puducherry), Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospital, in 2000. Located at Pondicherry- Cuddalore Road, a national highway, the self-contained and serene campus is spread over 44 acres of lush green lands. The educational institution was initially affiliated to Pondicherry University.

This institution is a place to be for those who wish to study medicine. MBBS course was started in 2000-2001 and continued ever since.

At present, the annual intake is 150 MBBS and 74 postgraduate students; currently, over 750 undergraduate and postgraduate students are pursuing their studies at AVMCH. The institution offers postgraduate courses in 13 disciplines and PhD programmes across various specialities and interdisciplinary areas. 

Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospitaloffers patient care, diagnostic, rehabilitative, preventive and pharmacy services. The hospitalboasts of a well-designed, efficient dialysis unit. Laparoscopy equipment for general and gynaecological surgery, ESWL, lithotripsy, PUVA chamber and laser instruments for cosmetic surgery are available for quality patient care services. There is always something for students here. 

All departments in the college are fully equipped with the necessary infrastructure. The institute has a well-appointed, spacious library with internet, Wi-Fi, audio-visual facilities and an e-learning centre.

The campus has Wi-Fi enabled for the convenience of staff and students. The auditorium can accommodate 750 persons for large group events. All these amenities would say that this is the place to be for studies in medicine.

Aarupadai Veedu Medical College Pondicherry Scholarship

There is lot of encouragement for students who wish to excel in academics, the objective behind establishing the institution is to ensure quality education reaches all. The other intention is to ensure no one capable of excelling academically stays away from education. Students from SC category can avail - Post Matric Government Scholarship For SC Students.

The aim of this scheme is to increase Gross Enrolment Ratio among the students from SC category by providing all financial assistance and focus is on those who are from economically not so well off families.

The students are selected for this scholarship by respective state governments or union territory administration where they are residing. Under this scheme, SC students pursuing studies beyond 12th class will be given scholarships. Only those students can take the benefit of SC Post Matric Scholarship 2022 whose parent’s income from all sources does not exceed Rs. 800000.

Every year the scheme will announce in May-June. All those students who belong to some other state and are studying in some other states will be given scholarships by the state to which they belong.  

The Ministry Of Social justice and empowerment will fund this SC Scholarship. Tuition fees and non-refundable charges will be directly pay to the institution by the central government through DBT mode and the payment of other expenses will be made directly into the bank account of students by DBT method.

This online portal will verify eligibility, caste status, aadhaar verification & delivery of assistance with time period. The students may submit their applications through National scholarship portal and Institutes will verify the applications on NSP portal.

How To Apply?

The procedure to apply is online. Candidates have to check the eligibility for the exam and ensure they are fulfilling it so as to minimize the chances of rejection of their application at a later stage.

The condition of eligibility can be checked from the notification in connection with the exam which would be available at the official website for the exam established by the organisation conducting the exam. Post, ensuring the fulfilment of the eligibility criteria, candidates can follow the procedure mentioned below:

1. Visit the official website of the exam and click the link for registration and wait for the form to appear.
2. Post appearance of the form, candidates can fill it with the details like their name, age, date of birth, qualification details, permanent and temporary address, their email id and mobile phone number and submit them and create an account comprising username and password and submit them.
3. The students would receive confirmation message of successful submission and post submission they can view the details about the username and password created and website where they can use the username and password.

3A. Sometimes after confirmation, candidates may receive an One Time Password (OTP) either on their mobile phone or email after submission of registration form. In that case, they can enter the OTP and receive the final confirmation of submission of registration form and the details about username and password created.

4. Applicants can login in with the help of credentials (username and password) created and start filling the application form with details – the name (of the candidate), age, date of birth, educational qualification, residential address and permanent address, the course they wish to study, the test centre where they wish to write the test.
5. Post filling all the details, applicants have to upload the documents, the documents to be uploaded would depend on the type of the course, they are wishing to apply for the exam. The documents to be uploaded for UG course are:

10^th class marksheet

12^th class marksheet or suggested alternatives if marksheets are yet to be obtained

Community Certificate (if applicable)

Differently Abled Certificate (if applicable)

More than happy will be the apt word to describe the life at the campus of this college. What makes life here more than comfortable? The first is the process of learning (academics), it is ensure the learning is a mix of fun and pleasure.

Students who desire to excel in academics get a big encouragement. There is also enough room for focusing on extra curricular activities. There are ample opportunities to take part in extra curricular activities to bring out the innate talent in them. 

Celebration is a day to rejuvenate life. As a curriculum, we have celebrations on National and Cultural days. We ensure we respect the culture of every celebration.  As a part of National days celebrations, we create awareness also based on the days’ celebration. 

We conduct Marathan, Walakathan, Cyclathan and bike rallies to create awareness on World Population Day, Drugs day, world environment day, breastfeeding day and so on.  We conduct elocution, debate, essay competitions on National Holiday like Republic day, Independence day, Gandhi Jayanthi, Teacher’s day, etc

Student Affairs Centre is a common centre for the students of AVMC&H. This centre provides services that support and enhance student growth and development. It is a single window system by which students and parents can contact the college to be informed about all student-related activities like Academic Schedule,

Time Table, Attendance, Permissions. Students at AVMC, irrespective of their faith, come together and celebrate Pongal, Holi, Onam, Diwali, Eid and Christmas.  This not only helps our students preserve their ethnic and cultural beliefs, but also nourishes and strengthens the AVMC family beliefs.
